Hello Friends!! I'm I'm back, now time to learn about computers let's start..
In early period there are big rooms that serve as computer centers where many computers are installed for data processing. With the invent of digital convergence, it grows towards computer networks with large number of separate interconnected computers at single/multiple locations that are used for sharing resources such as data, programs and equipments with anyone on similar network, irrespective of physical location of user and resources. Let's see the generations of computers..
Generations of computers
FIRST GENERATION ( 1945-1960)
The first generation of computers were those computers which
|
Vacuum tubes |
- Uses vacuum tubes
- We're big & clumsy
- Had high electricity consumption
- Uses programming in mechanical language
- Requires larger ACs
- Shows lot of electricity failure
SECOND GENERATION (1960-1965)
The second generation of computers were those computers which
|
Transistors |
- Uses transistors(many vacuum tubes)
- Developed Core Memory
- Were faster than the First generation computers
- Developed the first operating system
- Uses programming in Machine Language & Assembly Language
- Uses Magnetic tapes & discs
- Smaller in size than the First generation computers
- Consume less heat & electricity
THIRD GENERATION (1965-1971)
The Third generation of computer were those computers which
|
Circuits |
- Uses Integrated circuits
- Uses less power consumption
- Uses SSI(Small Scale Integration) & MSI(Medium Scale Integration) Technology
- Uses High Level Languages
FOURTH GENERATION (1971-1980)
The Fourth generation of computer were those computers which
- Uses LSI( Large Scale Integration) & VLSI(Very Large Scale Integration) Technology
- Were portable
- Uses RAID Technology of data storage
- Are used in virtual reality, multimedia, simulation
- Comes in use for Data Communication
- Uses different types of memories with very high accessing speed & storage capacity
FIFTH GENERATION
The Fifth generation of computer were those computers which
- Are used in parallel processing
- Are used in superconductors
- Are used in speech recognition
- Are used in intelligent robots
- Are used in artificial intelligence
